Mission Statement
Our mission is to enhance the lives of Wisconsin's residents with Spina Bifida by providing resources, financial assistance, peer support and social events in our community. We strive to build other's awareness about the unique needs of people with Spina Bifida. We are ambassadors, peers and educators that change the lives of those we serve.
About This Cause
SBWIS serves people in the state of Wisconsin whose lives are affected by Spina Bifida. Spina Bifida is a birth defect resulting in damage to the spinal cord and nerves. People with Spina Bifida live active lives despite the challenges they face from having a disability. SBWIS is a resource for our members. We have an extensive library of resources and we network with hospitals, other service providers to meet the unique needs of people with Spina Bifida. SBWIS fund raises year round to benefit our members. We have identified 4 need areas and annually grant monies for kids to attend camp, people to pursue higher education, people to participate in community programs, and assist with unexpected financial needs. SBWIS is the primary source of financial assistance in the state of Wisconsin for people with Spina Bifida. SBWIS provides peer support to our members. We have board members and volunteers with Spina Bifida. We connect our members to others with Spina Bifida based on location/age group. Through social media we encourage our members to engage in the support system SBWIS can provide. SBWIS hosts several social opportunities for our members. We believe meeting others with Spina Bifida and being active in the community helps keep us strong. SBWIS is sustained through donations, passionate supporters, and our network of over 500 members from across the state.
