Mission Statement
Fishing Has No Boundaries gives disabled people of all ages an opportunity to get outside and fish. With the help of caregivers, family members, and volunteers, participants fish from the shore or on boats. We invite experienced anglers and novices alike. Some participants have been attending for many years! Those who are new to fishing can pair up with others who are veterans to learn techniques and enjoy the day.
About This Cause
Our two-day fishing event is held annually at Cowan Lake State Park to enable those with disabilities an opportunity to fish, whether it’s on a boat or off the shore! We recruit up to 100 participants per day who are accompanied by caregivers who help them navigate through our event. After participants register and are ready to fish, they can sign up for a boat or grab a pole and bait for shore fishing. For boat fishing, they are assigned a boat, given a life jacket and escorted to the boat, where they meet their boat captain. Many of these boats are owned by volunteers who captain them for our event. When we are in need of more boats, we pay for the rentals available through the marina. After the morning fishing, the boats return to the tents, and participants are served lunch and entertained by live music. Many times they join in with singing and dancing. As the participants leave the grounds, they are given a goodie bag and participation medal. Around 100 volunteers are needed each day for set up, serving food, loading boats, driving boats, organizing registration, and helping participants fish. With everything we organize and provide for the event, we rely on sponsor money and grants.
