About This Cause
In 1952, a local minister started a program to make sure all low income children in Jefferson County Wisconsin would get a gift for Christmas. This year our program is 70 years old! Jefferson County Christmas Neighbors, Inc. distributes toys, food, blankets, warm hats and gloves to income eligible residents of Jefferson County. The distribution is funded by monetary donations from individuals, businesses and community organizations throughout the county. In addition there are many donated new and gently used toys, gift wrap, food and household goods, quilts and blankets, available for distribution to each family. The entire staff is comprised of unpaid volunteers. The Christmas Neighbors program has served about 1500 needy children in the county each year. The goal is to not only provide participants with gifts and warm clothes for the holidays but also a complete holiday meal. With the generous donations received from the community the group purchases over $50,000 of new toys and food from local businesses each year.
