Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley

Mission Statement

Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley began serving area homeless families in 1995. Founded by a dedicated group of community members, the organization became a local affiliate of the National Interfaith Hospitality Network now known as Family Promise. The premise was churches hosting homeless families by providing meals and shelter each week. With the vision of providing more stability to families and especially the children, the staff, Board of Trustees, volunteers and concerned citizens established a permanent shelter, Beacon House, in 2001. 2010 saw the expansion of the agency again as a Transitional Housing duplex was opened providing safe, affordable housing for families, giving them extra time to become stable. Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley truly is a team effort requiring the combined talents of the staff, volunteers, congregations and Board of Trustees.

About This Cause

In 1992 a partnership of Eau Claire citizens decided to take responsibility for the well-being of homeless children and their families. Inspired by National Interfaith Hospitality founder, Karen Olson, they embraced her unique format based on collaboration and volunteerism. Their dream was to provide shelter, meals and comprehensive services in a cost-effective manner. Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley is the realization of that dream and today is regarded as a model Family Promise and Interfaith Hospitality Network program. Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley is about caring for and serving one another. It’s about helping families find a home, strengthening bonds within our congregations, interfaith and volunteer communities, and tearing down the walls of fear, suspicion and misunderstanding that prevent many from reaching out to the families in need. Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley is about working to build a more humane society. It is the vision of Family Promise to help families and pregnant women who are temporarily homeless regain hope and achieve and sustain independence. Our mission is to provide shelter, meals, direct services and advocacy in the areas of housing, employment and general self-sufficiency. Family Promise of the Chippewa Valley combines case management in the areas of economic services, education, physical development and community building areas to provide direct services to families and pregnant women.
