Mission Statement
Since the Jubilee Year 2000, with its theme of “setting captives free,” Dismas Ministry has served as a national Catholic prison outreach. A survey of this ministry field indicated that no similar outreach in materials and services existed at that time. Since then, Dismas Ministry’s free Catholic scripture, faith and prayer resources provide for the needs of prison chaplains and inmates. This outreach also includes local Catholic prison ministries who wish to provide inmates with adequate pastoral care. The goal is to provide the spiritual resources inmates need to live as baptized members of Christ’s Body.
About This Cause
Dismas Ministry is a national, Catholic nonprofit that provides pastoral outreach - free bibles, prayer books, rosaries, and faith, prayer, bible, and social teaching study courses - to Catholic prisoners, as well as to those of other faiths who request spiritual support. The mission also includes support to chaplains (Catholic and non-Catholic), regional Catholic prison ministries, families of the incarcerated, and the general Catholic community.
