Festivals of Cedarburg, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization who's mission is to work toward sustaining a vital and healthy business and retail community by showcasing the city’s attributes, encouraging tourism and fostering civic, cultural and educational interests.

About This Cause

FESTIVALS MISSION STATEMENT Festivals of Cedarburg, Inc. (Festivals) was organized for the purpose of planning festivals and events in the City of Cedarburg which enhance the vitality and economic well-being of the City while fostering civic, cultural and educational interests. The corporation is organized exclusively for charitable purposes as a 501(c)(3) and is not affiliated with the City of Cedarburg or the Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce. EVENTS ORGANIZED BY FESTIVALS AND ANNUAL ATTENDANCE • Winter Festival (WF) (February) - started 1974: Community festival, attendance 10,000 over the two days • Strawberry Festival (SF) (June) - started 1985: Arts and crafts fairs, attendance 100,000 over the two days • Wine & Harvest Festival (WHF) (September) - started 1972: Arts and crafts fairs, Farmer’s Market, attendance 70,000+ over the two days • Oktoberfest (OF)- started 2008 as German Festival: Community festival featuring the best of the German heritage, attendance 15,000 over the two days • A Cedarburg Christmas (ACC) (November-December) – started 2011: Santa’s Workshop and free visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, in operation over five weekends during the holiday season, attendance of the season – over 500 families. *Attendance figures based on information provided by the Cedarburg Police Department and MATC VARIOUS ACTIVITIES AT ALL FESTIVALS • Art on the Avenue, where our main avenue is closed to vehicle traffic, includes over 300 artists, vendors and merchants displaying artwork and products for purchase (SF and WHF only) • The festivals have family-friendly activities (95 percent are free) such as the coloring tables, face painting, pumpkin painting, clowns, magicians, make ‘n takes, pony rides, bumper boats, and more • The festivals have fun contests – ice sculpting, chili contest, grape stomping, strawberry shortcake eating, CedarQuacker 500 rubber duck race, chili contests, costumed bed races on ice, sauerkraut eating contest, Giant Pumpkin Charity Regatta, Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off, ice cream eating contest. • Musical stages – live music at a minimum of 4 stages at SF and WHF; live German bands all day at OF stage, occasionally music at WF • Entertainment stages featuring local dance groups, professional street performers, magicians, jugglers, and local performing art groups ECONOMIC BENEFITS OF FESTIVALS • Festivals funnels well over $1,500,000 dollars annually through the local Cedarburg and surrounding area economies • Festivals makes a significant contribution to the economic viability and health of downtown Cedarburg and the surrounding area. Working with over 70 Cedarburg merchants, for most, Festival weekends being their most profitable weekends for the entire year • Festivals spends over $550,000 each year with local businesses from office supply companies to insurance to waste collection to equipment rental with 90 percent of these dollars spent remaining in Ozaukee County by design • Festivals creates significant fundraising opportunities for over 35 local non-profit organizations who depend on the money they generate during a festival to fund their own operations and charitable contributions. Their combined income earnings from the Festivals is over $500,000 annually with much of this income funneling back into Cedarburg and the surrounding communities. OPERATION OF FESTIVALS • Minimum 4,000 staff hours; over 5,700 volunteer hours annually • Under the direction of an Executive Director, three part-time employees manage day-to-day operations of Festivals as well as execute events. • A Cedarburg Christmas is the only event that has a small committee of five in addition to festival employees • Approximately 400 volunteers annually – to help fill these positions, volunteers come from the general public, developed partnerships with organizations such as the American Legion, High School Robotics Club, Ozaukee County 4-H, Cedarburg Community Scholarship Fund, local bank sponsors, local business sponsors, churches, to name a few • Festival Board of Directors (10 voting members) • Festival Committee – made up of general public, mainly Cedarburg merchants – monthly meetings are open to the public SOURCES OF FESTIVAL INCOME • All Festivals: One third of all revenue comes from sponsorships • Winter Festival: Battle of the Bands ticket sales, participation fees, marketplace booth rental, food booth sales, underwritten by SF & WHF • Strawberry, Wine & Harvest: Merchant street rental, vendor (resellers) booth rentals, food/beer/wine/lemonade booth sales, Festival merchandise sales, vendor participation fees • Oktoberfest: Vendor booth rental, food/beer booth, underwritten by SF & WHF • A Cedarburg Christmas: Donations from ornaments and visitors, raffle tickets, parking lots at SF & WHF. PROMOTION • For all festivals - promotional materials include regionally distributed festival brochures; press releases; feature stories; advertising throughout metro Milwaukee and Chicago, advertising throughout Wisconsin, advertising at Wisconsin Visitor’s Centers, local TV and radio spots, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Festival Website with over 2 million combined hits per year. • Winter Festival distribution of 15,000 festival fliers, 7,000 festival maps/schedules, 50 posters, and Hey Kids information distributed through the local newspaper • SF and WHF distribution of 25,000 festival fliers, 10,000-12,000 festival maps/schedules, 100 posters, and Hey Kids information distributed through the local newspaper • OF distribution of 7,000 festival fliers, 50 posters, 250 festival schedules COMMUNITY BENEFITS Community Share Program • In addition to providing fundraising opportunities for over 35 local non-profits, Festivals has a Festival Grant Program donations since 2001 are over $200,000, not including significant funds donated by charitable groups who participate in Cedarburg’s festivals. This is a short list of some of our non-profit partners: Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts, Cedarburg Lion’s Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Legion, church organizations, American Red Cross, Cedarburg Cultural Center and many more. Community pride, promotion and contribution to arts/culture • A tradition that encourages people to stay involved in the community • Over 400 volunteers in the Festival Program • Festival’s activities include promotion of the arts community, the local and surrounding area merchants, local non-profit organizations, tourism, and Cedarburg’s historic preservation • Four art fairs on the Avenue, art contests, art activities for all ages, wine tasting and tours, and musical entertainment, educational components are activities throughout the Festival footprint.
