Mission Statement
Singing transforms lives. Those who experience the joy of singing do better in school, in their jobs, and in family and social relationships. The mission of Harmony Foundation International is to financially enable programs that share, nurture and perpetuate the love of singing.
About This Cause
We accomplish this mission specifically by supporting the youth outreach programs of the Barbershop Harmony Society, which introduce high school and college students to a cappella singing and barbershop harmony. These programs include camps and workshops for students, one-time and ongoing training for music educators, and the distribution of free music to schools. These programs extend throughout the US and are delivered by staff and volunteers. During 2013: • 6,438 students and 241 Music Educators received scholarships to 53 youth camps and workshops • 29 Chorus Directors attended Harmony University on scholarships • 23 Music Educators attended Harmony University on scholarships • 9 Quartets attended Harmony University on scholarships • 2 Individuals attended Harmony University on Lou Perry arranger scholarships • 1 Quartet attended Harmony University on the Larry Ajer scholarship • 1 Director attended Harmony University on the Jim Miller scholarship • 27 Quartets were awarded scholarships to the Harmony Foundation Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest • More than 600 students and 19 choruses received scholarships to the Youth Chorus Contest. • 1,246 students and 23 music educators attended the College tour • More than $350,000 was given to Districts and Chapters to ensure the strength and vitality of Barbershop music on a local level
