SAINT PAUL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA SOCIETY

Mission Statement

Our mission is to sustain a world-class chamber orchestra at the highest standards of artistic excellence that enriches the Twin Cities community by sharing dynamic, distinctive and engaging performances. We are actively committed to accessibility and intentional inclusivity in all aspects of our work and continually strive to provide all people in our community with opportunities to connect with the music we perform.

About This Cause

The SPCO Board recently approved a set of strategic imperatives that will guide our work through the 2021.22 season, pushing us to enrich the community in all that we do and expanding our capacity to serve more people from all parts of our community. We will strive to do the following: The SPCO will present distinctive and transformational performances of chamber orchestra repertoire and chamber music by continuously working to elevate the artistic excellence of the orchestra; developing significant artistic projects to share with our community, including commissioning projects; and maintaining our commitment to developing the artistic leadership skills of our musicians. The SPCO will increase the number of people who experience our music in Minnesota, with a primary focus on the Twin Cities metro area by eliminating attendance barriers, focusing on geographic and price accessibility; and bringing performances to new audiences through free audio and video streaming. The SPCO will increase the number of audience members who are younger than 40, with a particular focus on children, young parents, and college students by eliminating barriers that prevent young people from attending, focusing on price accessibility, and creating new concert experiences that appeal to young people. The SPCO will develop an audience and SPCO family that is reflective of our Twin Cities community by raising the cross-cultural competency of our internal constituencies; building authentic external relationships; and forming institutional partnerships to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. The SPCO will create an extraordinary internal culture where all members of the organization are engaged and feel valued by renewing our commitment to a culture of collaboration, being consistently transparent within and between constituencies and developing a shared narrative amongst different constituencies. These efforts can only succeed if the organization is financially healthy. As such, the SPCO will develop financial resources and practices that provide stability by creating a financial reserve to protect against economic downturns; developing a new generation of leadership donors; and reducing the endowment draw from 5% to 4%.
