Mission Statement
Our Mission: To offer hope as we provide assistance to our neighbors in need Our Vision: To uphold the dignity of our neighbors in need as they strive for self-sufficiency and to share the ongoing work of assisting our neighbors in partnership with the congregations, organizations, businesses and individuals in our communities Our Belief: ICA’s presence in our communities makes our neighborhoods more stable and secure
About This Cause
ICA started when 2 couples, aware of the mounting need in our community, began distributing food and clothing from a house in downtown Hopkins. ICA was incorporated in 1971 by a coalition of 5 churches from Hopkins and Minnetonka. Over the years, additional congregations have joined, and we now have 36 partner congregations. ICA is also supported by over 100 business partners as well as civic groups, schools and fraternal organizations. In 2014 ICA began serving our neighbors at 11588 K-Tel Drive, near the border of Minnetonka and Hopkins. This new site, built with the community in mind, was designed with a “choice” food shelf model. Clients choose the food they want for their families, adding more dignity to their experience when using the food shelf. ICA K-tel serves neighbors by appointment during daytime and evening hours. Clients who come without an appointment are given a supplemental bag of food and guided to make an appointment. ICA’s site at 12990 St Davids Road continues to distribute emergency food bags, make all food appointments, and provide office, warehouse and work space. ICA’s mobile food shelf is successfully targeting seniors in our community. Food is delivered to 3 high-density housing areas in Minnetonka and Hopkins. In 2016, additional mobile sites may be added. ICA also provides home delivery to clients who are unable to visit the food shelf and do not reside at one of the mobile food shelf sites. ICA offers food to area schools, and has an ongoing relationship with Hopkins and Minnetonka school districts. ICA provides weekend food bags for students experiencing meal gaps, along with ICA literature to encourage parents to come to ICA. School teachers and social workers can also pick up bins of healthy snacks for students missing breakfast due to no food in the house. ICA’s Case Managers work directly with clients, provide referrals to other resources, and direct financial assistance for homelessness prevention. ICA’s Employment Specialist helps clients with skills and tools required to obtain employment. ICA Volunteers are the best!
