Mission Statement
Hamm Clinic's Mission is to provide: Quality, culturally responsive outpatient mental health assessment and treatment for adults in our community, particularly the underserved and those who are not able to afford the full cost of care. Expert training and education for mental health professionals. Leadership in our community for effective mental health care
About This Cause
Hamm Memorial Psychiatric Clinic was founded in 1954 to assure that comprehensive, effective mental health care is accessible to all. Our founder, Margaret Hamm Kelley, was a visionary social worker who pioneered integrated care in St. Paul. When vulnerable individuals had no one to care for them, Ms. Kelley and her colleagues developed Hamm’s signature model of care that became a health safety net. “I was a mess when I first came here and now I feel like a completely different person. Everyone has been super nice to me and easy to talk to, which is not the case for me everywhere.” --Hamm Clinic client Our psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers act as an integrated clinical team – providing holistic care to clients with multiple needs. Together, they help relieve individuals’ symptoms of psychological distress and, at the same time, support better functioning at work, at home and in the community. Growing inclusive psychiatric services for an ever-expanding diverse client population is a current goal. Our multi-specialty clinical team conducts a thorough diagnostic assessment with each client, learning about personal health concerns and the context of their life – environment, family, culture, and social factors. Each client receives an individualized treatment plan to achieve their goals. Demand for our services is growing. We typically have a wait-list of 30 to 40 individuals. Many of our clients have serious, persistent mental illnesses and complex co-occurring disorders, such as chronic pain, substance use, or ongoing physical health conditions. A vast majority have a history of trauma.
