Mission Statement
Second Chance for Life Foundation mission is to: * provide emotional, financial and physical support to individuals undergoing heart transplants, LVAD (mechanical assist device) recipients, their families and caregivers. * provide educational opportunities to the above individuals, health care professionals, and the public regarding heart transplantation, mechanical assist devices, and related topics.
About This Cause
SCFLF was formed in 1986 as a Minnesota nonprofit corporation and was granted federal 501(c)(3) status, with the goal of "patients helping patients" serving individuals going through the heart transplant and heart pump patients at the University of Minnesota. We fulfill this goal by providing financial assistance for temporary housing and related expenses, by holding educational events (in person and online) for patients and caregivers, and by providing emotional support in both individual and group situations. Former patients provide one-on-one support through hospital visits and followup contact.
