Mission Statement
AHEF’s mission is to create opportunities for students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, all 37,200 of them, to connect with their interests, talents, and passions.
About This Cause
Our students are increasingly diverse (27.5 percent are students of color) and over 35 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and last year over 1,000 students were identified as experiencing homelessness. Our district serves thirteen communities across Anoka and Hennepin counties including: Andover, Anoka, Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Champlin, Coon Rapids, Dayton, Fridley, Ham Lake, Nowthen, Oak Grove, and Ramsey. (NOTE: this could be an easy visual – a map of the district with stats over it – 37,200 students from 250,000 families across 13 communities and 2 counties). Our donors’ impact is greatest in the strategic areas of: (1) enhancing early childhood education. (2) advancing talent and opportunity development, and (3) expanding career and college readiness. Because together we intentionally work to: (1) level the playing field for all students, (2) fill in the gaps where public funding ends but student needs continue, and (3) foster innovative ideas from teachers and staff. Donors do this by strategically investing in key programs that help move the needle for our students. For example, our donors: • Connect and engage students in after school activities like sports, theater, and band have the chance to participate and connect • Provide Wi-Fi hotspots that high school students can check out of the library so that even if they don’t have internet at home they can continue to learn outside of school • Create safe places like Buddy Benches to help teach our elementary students that kindness and inclusion are essential social skills • Foster K-12, district-wide opportunities for students to excel in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), music and the arts. • Launch new industrial sewing career pathways to meet the needs of special education students. • Provide resources to educate parents about what it means to be kindergarten ready.
