Mission Statement

The American Brain Foundation supports vital research and education to discover causes, improved treatments, and cures for brain and other nervous system diseases.

About This Cause

The American Brain Foundation (ABF) is committed to promoting human potential by curing brain disease. Brain disease encompasses thousands of diseases and disorders of the nervous system which include the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. The ABF funds research to develop new treatments and cures, supports and fosters young researchers and the growth of the neuroscience profession, and connects patients and caregivers to expert resources and the researchers making a difference. As the foundation of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), the international professional association of more than 25,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, the ABF has access to and works directly with the largest network of neurologists and neurologic researchers in the world. Our strength is our relationships with those patient care providers and cure discoverers, with our focus as an umbrella philanthropic organization on all brain and nervous system diseases. This means we utilize our network of experts to ensure the most critical and transformative research receives funding and that patients have access to valuable resources spanning many brain diseases. The goal of the American Brain Foundation is to reduce the prevalence of brain disease in the United States by 50% by 2040.
