Mission Statement

Sugarloaf: The North Shore Stewardship Association is committed to the restoration of the forest along the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota and to the preservation and restoration of Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center. We provide educational programs at Sugarloaf Cove and along the North Shore year round. We also partner with numerous other organizations to better meet our goals.

About This Cause

Founded in 1993 to protect and restore beautiful Sugarloaf Cove, Sugarloaf: The North Shore Stewardship Association promotes the restoration and preservation of the entire North Shore. We offer fun, educational programs for all ages at the Cove, and are teaching North Shore landowners how to become better stewards of their land through our forest restoration and invasive plant control efforts. Our mission is: To inspire the preservation and restoration of the North Shore’s unique environment through education and exemplary stewardship, especially at Sugarloaf Cove. Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center, located on Highway 61, 73 miles northeast of Duluth and 4 miles southwest of Schroeder, is the natural place to escape the crowds and relax. The Cove is renowned for its 1.1 billion year old lava flows and its beautiful cobblestone beach. The Center offers a breadth of nature oriented activities and learning opportunities for families and individuals including; Guided Nature Walks and Programs Self-guided one mile Nature Trail Unique Geologic Formations Historic Logging Operation Artifacts Interpretive Center with exhibits Sugarloaf relies on membership dues, grants, and donor gifts to continue operating.
