Mission Statement
Our mission at Help the Helpless is to provide for the physical and spiritual needs, formal education, and vocational opportunities to poor children and families, both in India and Ecuador. The objective is to help those in poverty become self-sufficient and to break the bond of poverty that they live in.
About This Cause
At this time, we are serving many thousands of children and families, both in India and Ecuador. We are able to provide for their welfare, support and education through your generosity. In India, we support St. Mary's School and Orphanage for the Poor, Deaf, and Handicapped, founded by Fr. Antony, who passed away in early 2018. His nephew, I. Maria Selvam, continues to oversee St. Mary’s as the Headmaster and Administrator. Their mission is to provide for the physical needs, formal education, and vocational training of the children enrolled at the school so they can provide for their own support and become self-sufficient young adults. They also provide for their spiritual needs as they teach the children our rich Catholic faith. All of the children attend daily mass in the chapel at St. Mary’s in India, pray the rosary and pray for the generous benefactors of Help the Helpless 5 times each day. We are able to provide for several hundred children each year at St. Mary's because of your generosity. We at Help the Helpless are now working with The Missionary Group of the Home of the Mother, (an order of Catholic Sisters, Brothers and Priests), who are working directly with the poor in three communities in Ecuador as well as indigenous communities in the Amazon jungle. The Servant Sisters, Brothers and Priests care for the elderly, operate soup kitchens, give medical treatment, teach school, educate children, work with women in trouble, provide assistance to poor families, bury the dead, and provide for the spiritual needs of the poor. They also teach the Catholic faith, baptize, give first communion, provide bibles and rosaries, and hold retreats for youth, adults, and families. The direct involvement of the Sisters, Brothers and Priests with the poor allows them to evaluate the true needs of the people and the priorities of those most in need. The help given through the works of is closely monitored to ensure that those receiving help are truly in need and deserving of the sponsorship provided by the kind benefactors of Help the Helpless. This is truly a hands on effort, and the Sisters know the temporal and spiritual needs of the people they are serving.
