Mission Statement

The Monument Crisis Center’s (MCC) mission is to provide food, education, safety net services, tools & assistance, concrete referrals and resources for families, seniors and individuals in crisis situations, and promote community awareness of needs and available resources to at-risk and low income people in Contra Costa County. Our organization is dedicated to providing dynamic service programs for low income, at-risk families and individuals initiating a strong path to independence and sustainability by first meeting our clients “where they are” determining needs, offering a personalized assessment, delivering immediate interventions and multiple, direct avenues for prevention and redirection.

About This Cause

Our organization’s modest beginnings as an emergency food pantry for the Monument Corridor to our current capacity as a family resource center for Contra Costa County has the ground level access to the clients, the respect of the community and the sheer will and determination to improve our community. Our programs and services target the needs of adults, youth, and seniors addressing in a holistic manner the whole person and the entire family unit. We opened our doors to 84 families with immediate hunger issues and have now registered more than 18,000 households providing comprehensive and critical safety net services. Our safety net services include 5 core program areas: Nutrition and Food Distribution Program providing food last year for more than 11,000 hungry Contra Costa residents; Youth Programs including After School Café tutoring for elementary school children, MCC Teens for our middle-schoolers, Summer Camp for youth all ages, CSJO Restorative Justice Program for juvenile offenders; Senior Moments for our older population; and Community Engagement for service, volunteerism and college internships, as well as a specific outreach program for adults with disabilities to volunteer, gain job skills and get involved through our Food Pantry services. Through our Resource and Referral Program we provide health and wellness programs, resume and skill development, language and literacy classes, computer and community education workshops. Additionally, we have a variety of nonprofit partner agencies providing pro bono services onsite including health care screenings, a mobile urgent care clinic, parenting classes, violence prevention, safety plans and legal aid. Over the past year, with the help of hundreds of volunteers and donors, we distributed food, enough to provide one and a half million meals to those most vulnerable in our community. We continue to see an increase in new clients in need of our services; including many seniors, adults with disabilities and especially families with children. Our wraparound safety net services address serious health and hunger issues with prevention, education and hands-on solutions.
