Mission Statement
The mission of the Ramsey County Historical Society is to preserve our past, inform our present, and inspire our future by collecting and preserving our shared heritage, publishing great new research, and educating adults and students from across Ramsey County and beyond.
About This Cause
The Society began in 1949 when a group of citizens moved to acquire and preserve the Heman and Jane Gibbs farm in Falcon Heights. Following five years of restoration work, the Gibbs Farm museum opened in 1954. In 1974 the farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1964, the society began publishing its award-winning magazine "Ramsey County History" that continues to be published quarterly. In 1978, an expanded commitment from Ramsey County enabled the organization to move its library, archives and administrative offices to downtown Saint Paul's Landmark Center, a restored Federal Courts building on the National Register of Historic Places. An additional expansion of the Research Center was completed in 2010 to better serve the public and allow greater access to the Society's vast collection of historical archives and artifacts.
