Mission Statement
United Way of Central Iowa mobilizes our community to action so all central Iowans can thrive. We see how our community’s greatest challenges are connected, and we bring people and resources together to address them.
About This Cause
Since 1917, United Way of Central Iowa has held the unique position of bringing together nonprofits, businesses, government and community leaders, volunteers, and individuals with lived experience to identify and strategically address our community’s most critical challenges. Together, we look at the big picture when it comes to the future of our community to identify gaps and best leverage points to create lasting, positive impact. We are united in taking on some of our community’s critical challenges, addressing them at their roots through investments and strong partnerships. In addition, we identify specific barriers limiting our community’s ability to provide equitable opportunities to every central Iowan. Through strategic partnerships, data-driven strategies, and targeted investments across Polk, Dallas, and Warren counties, United Way of Central Iowa is dedicated to advancing progress in the 5 Elements of a Thriving Community: • Essential Needs: central Iowans live in stable, healthy places with essential supports they need to thrive. • Early Childhood Success: central Iowa children start out healthy and ready to learn. • Education Succes: central Iowa youth are academically successful and have a plan for their future. • Economic Opportunity: central Iowans have sufficient income and opportunities to build wealth. • Health & Well-Being: central Iowans have physical and mental well-being. Volunteer advisors guide funding decisions, ensuring programs deliver measurable outcomes. Since 2005, United Way of Central Iowa has earned the top four-star rating from Charity Navigator, showing financial strength and accountability.
