About This Cause

The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) is a nonprofit, interfaith organization focused on a shared belief of helping struggling Central Iowans meet basic human needs. Our staff and supports provide assistance in four main focus areas: food, childcare, housing stability and interfaith connection. DMARC receives very little government assistance, so we rely on the support of generous contributors. Working efficiently and effectively to be good stewards of our donor resources. What's more, we believe that a successful interfaith organization requires respect for all religions and cultures, positive and inspiring relationships and collaborative efforts for the common good. DMARC Food Pantry Network: Our mission at DMARC is working together to meet basic human needs for the greater Des Moines community – and that includes everyone. We strive to provide healthy, culturally appropriate food through our Food Pantry Network and welcome all those who need assistance, no matter their circumstances. We make every effort to treat each visitor to our food pantries with dignity and respect. The DMARC Food Pantry Network strives to meet the short-term needs of the food-insecure in our area by offering food assistance at times of urgent need. Once a month, families can receive a free, three-day supply of nutritionally balances food. DMARC manages a Food Pantry Network consisting of 14 separate partnering food pantry sites, a Mobile Food Pantry, and numerous community supporters. The DMARC Food Pantry Network is health-based and is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Food pantry sites are located in Des Moines, Ankeny, Clive, Johnston, Urbandale and West Des Moines. DMARC Interfaith Connections: DMARC promotes interfaith collaboration, experiences and engagement. DMARC has relationships with members of the atheist, Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Jain, Jewish, Native American, Sikh and Unitarian Universalist communities. We organize interfaith worship services, lectures and tours to help strengthen our efforts in Des Moines, and we invite people of all or no faiths to donate and become involved. How You Can Help: 1) Volunteer or make a financial or healthy food donation to help our neighbors in times of need. 2) Help DMARC expand its reach to children and families. 3) Participate in DMARC programs and opportunities. 4) Learn about different faiths and share in belief of helping others. 5) Raise awareness to increase services for the hungry and those needing childcare and housing.
