About This Cause
The Humane Society of Scott County (HSSC) began advocating for the humane care of all animals 115 years ago. Each year the HSSC provides shelter and care for more than 3,326 abandoned, abused, and neglected animals. In addition to providing humane care for animals in Scott County, it is the HSSC’s mission to adopt pets to caring, responsible, life-long homes, and to educate the community about responsible pet ownership. We give every adoptable animal a second chance. The HSSC houses the only animal control in the Scott County area, which places a financial strain on our ability to function at full capacity. In addition to our animal control services, we offer rabies and microchip clinics. There is a volunteer dog trainer on site that works with dogs that require behavior modification. Moreover, we provide foster homes and partner with local animal rescues. Ideally, our goal is to become a no-kill shelter. We are continuously looking for new ways to reach that goal. With that in mind, we strive to help homeless animals find their new “fur-ever” home. We provide a safe haven for our community’s lost and abandoned pets.
