Mission Statement

Seeking to put God's love into action, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, community, and hope.

About This Cause

Established in 1986, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity has decades of experience in addressing the lack of decent and affordable housing for qualified, low-income families. The organization addresses community needs through programs that assist low-income families in Polk, Dallas, and Jasper Counties utilizing a self-help approach. Programs are geared toward transforming neighborhoods and building wealth through homeownership, building stability through owner-occupied repair (home preservation and Rock the Block®), and working toward financial self-sufficiency and mortgage readiness. GDM Habitat envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Throughout its lifespan, GDM Habitat has created more than 500 homeownership opportunities, provided home preservation and repairs to over 2,800 families, and served 500 households through counseling and education.
