Mission Statement
The Friends of DM Parks is a volunteer-driven nonprofit 501c3 organization. We believe Better Parks make for a Brighter Community. Our Mission: At Friends of Des Moines Parks, we are dedicated to creating a healthier and more vibrant Des Moines community for all by preserving, enhancing and advocating for parks, trails and recreational programs. Our projects focus on urban conservation, environmental education, sport instruction, water recreation, neighborhood beautification, and stewardship. We have recently been awarded a Guidestar Gold Seal of Transparency.

The Friends of DM Parks is a volunteer-driven nonprofit 501c3 organization. We believe Better Parks make for a Brighter Community. Our Mission: At Friends of Des Moines Parks, we are dedicated to creating a healthier and more vibrant Des Moines community for all by preserving, enhancing and advocating for parks, trails and recreational programs The city has 78 parks, over 4,000 acres of park and open space, 82 miles of trails, aquatic centers, community centers and civic attractions. The Friends support these spaces, programs and special events to attract diverse, multigenerational audiences and helps make Des Moines a wonderful place to live. The Des Moines Park and Rec department has seen cuts to both personnel and tax dollars but with increased need to support the community recreation. A sampling of past projects of the Friends include: swim lesson scholarships to low income and ELL families, Trash Bash, SUP fleet for Grays Lake, Ewing Park Revitalization, park benches, park shelters, playgrounds and youth uniforms for Park and Rec participants.
