Mission Statement
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor is to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We are open to all youth, ages 5-18 without regard to race, gender, economic status etc. We focus on helping those children who need our services the most. The majority of the children we serve come from economically disadvantaged households.
About This Cause
Each day the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor reaches 300 youth through our six Clubs which are located throughout Cedar Rapids, Iowa City & Marion. Club programming focuses on the following five core areas: 1. Education, Career Development & Technology programs help youth create aspirations for the future and provide them with opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement. Programs in this area are Power Hour, Goals for Graduation & Club Tech. 2. Character & Leadership Development programs empower youth to support and influence Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others’ cultural identities. Programs in this area are National Youth of the Year, Torch Club & Keystone Club. 3. Sports, Recreation & Fitness programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment, and social and interpersonal skills. Programs in this area are SMART Moves, Triple Play & Daily Social Recreation in the game room. 4. Health & Life Skills programs aid in the development of young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successful adult lives. Programs in this area are SMART Girls, Passport to Manhood & Chef's Club. 5. The Arts programs enable young people to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts, performing arts and creative writing. Programs in this area are National Fine Arts, Drama Matters & National Photography Contest.
