Mission Statement
Helping to propagate Indian dance by supporting young American artists in their artistic and charitable endeavors
About This Cause
Across the U.S., there are many organizations that support the Indian arts by sponsoring events by visiting artists from India. There are very few devoted to artists who are residents of the U.S. and even fewer devoted to the younger generation of Indian artists. This was the impetus for forming IDEA more than 13 years ago. With new leadership and vision, IDEA has started supporting Central Texas dancers to put on free performances for the community! We are a nonprofit created to support young artists who would not otherwise be able to pursue their artistic and charitable goals. Historically, we have helped with rehearsal space, performance space, and mentoring in production and management. We are hoping to stage our first original work in 2023. Our primary support comes from multiple performing artists and teachers in Austin, including Natyalaya School of Dance, which has been producing annual shows since 1987, Natya Sabhai Arts, which supports up to 40 productions a year from ten local dance schools, and other independent professional artists, including musicians, sound directors, and photographers. The Indian Dance Endeavor of Austin’s purpose is to forge partnerships with other educational and cultural entities and to foster cross-cultural links. We support activities that promote appreciation of diverse cultures through the medium of dance. In the spirit of this purpose, we offer our nonprofit sponsorship to any show in Austin meeting the following criteria: Primary performer, organizer, or director (CLIENT) is under the age of 25. CLIENT must live in the Austin Metropolitan Area. Performance is any classical, semi-classical, folk or other style of Indian dance. Performance is free to attendees. Performance is not a benefit or fundraiser for any entity other than IDEA. Nonprofit sponsorship may entail: Procuring insurance certificate for day of event. Providing use of non-profit IRS determination letter for event to receive nonprofit and tax-free status for rentals.
