SEED SAVERS EXCHANGE INC

DECORAH, Iowa, 52101-7776 United States

Mission Statement

Founded in 1975, our non-profit mission is to conserve and promote America’s culturally diverse but endangered food crop heritage for future generations by collecting, growing and sharing heirloom seeds and plants. Our 890 acre farm is where we call home near Decorah, Iowa.

About This Cause

We grow, save, and share open pollinated and heirloom seeds. Maintaining a living collection of over 20,000 varieties that have been pass down through generations and rare garden varieties that have dropped out of the commercial seed trade during the twentieth century, we strive to get these rare seeds out of our vault and growing in backyards and farms around the country. We distribute our collection to the general public through our catalog. We also share seeds through our member-to-member seed swap, the Seed Exchange, where our membership from around the country trades home grown open pollinated seeds. Seed Savers Exchange strives to protect biodiversity through the distribution of our collection and educating our membership on best practices in the time honored tradition of seed saving.
