Mission Statement
The Love Fund for Children works to ensure children in Kansas City and surrounding communities have necessities for growing, learning, and living by raising and distributing funds for goods and services one child at a time and often as a last resort. The Love Fund provides solutions for children whose needs are beyond their family's or support structure's funding ability.
About This Cause
In 1981, former WDAF-TV anchor Cynthia Smith first aired the poignant news segment “Thursday’s Child,” and in doing so, laid the foundation for the Love Fund to grow into an established 501(c)(3) organization. Viewers and employees responded to the compelling stories of area children facing huge challenges. Contributions began pouring into the television station, and our mission was set. Together we would help provide the necessary goods and services children need to thrive. Since inception, an estimated 220,000 children have been assisted. This year we anticipate serving more than 9,000 kids. The Love Fund was established to improve the quality of life for children in need, from newborn to 18, in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area when funding from other sources is unavailable. Therapeutic tools, medical equipment, eye exams and glasses, assistive technology, clothing, shoes, beds, bedding and cribs, personal hygiene items, and more. The Love Fund hopes to alleviate some of the concerns, expenses, and worries families face when experiencing financial difficulty or adapting to the demands of a special needs child. We work through certified third-party youth service professionals to ascertain and validate each child's need, review each request individually, and allocate vouchers for goods and services to providers.
