Mission Statement
SAVE, Inc. provides comprehensive housing solutions to empower socially and medically disadvantaged people to improve their health and lead stable lives with personal dignity.
About This Cause
SAVE, Inc. was founded in 1986 as the first AIDS-specific hospice in the State of Missouri. When the diagnosis of HIV/AIDS often indicated a death sentence, a group of volunteers created SAVE Home, to provide people with the disease who had lost their homes, families and jobs a place to die with dignity and care. As the complexion of the disease changed and it became a chronic, manageable disease, the organization recognized that they were dealing with homelessness and the diagnoses that come along with it. As one of the largest providers of housing in the metropolitan Kansas City area, SAVE, Inc. owns and manages eight residential buildings (108 units) of permanent supportive housing in midtown Kansas City, Missouri. They process an average of 700 - 800 housing vouchers monthly, allowing clients to live where they wish, in any one of 15 counties in Missouri of Kansas. A large part of what SAVE, Inc. provides is emergency assistance. People who are literally or imminently homeless can obtain assistance in back rent and utilities, security deposits and identification in order to obtain housing, among other emergency needs. The charity's newest program is PRIDE Haven, a drop-in center and emergency shelter for transition-aged LGBTQ+ youth. The program offers a safe, inclusive space where guests can utilize the shelter services when they are experiencing homelessness, obtain meals, be connected to community resources, mental and physical healthcare through case management.
