Mission Statement
The mission of Sheffield Place is "To empower homeless mothers and their children to heal from their trauma and become self-sufficient."
About This Cause
Sheffield Place opened its doors in 1991. Today, Sheffield Place is the only treatment and supportive housing program in Kansas City that focuses exclusively on highly-traumatized homeless mothers and their children, features an average length of stay of nearly three months, provides intensive mental health and addiction recovery services, delivers all services onsite where the families live, offers continuing services for as long as necessary to families once they transition to permanent housing in the community (aftercare), operates 7 houses and a duplex in the neighborhood for client use, admits families with children as old as 18 years of age and women who are actively using with the understanding that they will immediately enter addiction recovery, and ensures that all services are trauma-informed. In 2024, Sheffield Place will served 157 families through the residential program in the urban core of Northeast Kansas City, MO, and the community-based aftercare program. Today the agency serves more than seven times the number of families served in 2010 (20 families) yet the budget has yet to double from the 2010 level.
