About This Cause

History: The Heart of America Diabetes Research Foundation was founded in 1991, for the purpose of providing a not-for-profit research foundation to support research in the practice of Hellman & Rosen Endocrine Associates, P.C. It is an IRS approved 501(c)3 corporation, and has been the source of funding for several important research projects which have received considerable attention from the scientific community in the U.S. as well as internationally. It is a locally run, small research program. Funding: All of the funds for the foundation come from charitable donations. It is the policy of the foundation not to apply for NIH grants or for ADA grants because of the need to provide maximum opportunities for younger, less well established, university based researchers. We rely solely upon private contributions, drawn from organizations and individuals in our community.
