Mission Statement

CHARIS is a diverse group of women united in our mission to perform music that celebrates and encourages women and the LGBTQ community.

About This Cause

CHARIS is a lesbian-identified women's chorus open to all women. It was incorporated in 1993 and founded by two lesbians and a straight ally, a Methodist minister. The chorus performs two concerts per year, sings at the St. Louis PRIDE festival, and performs on request for various benefits and activities. We are small in number, anywhere from 25 - 50 voices, but we are mighty in voice. CHARIS is a member of the GALA Choruses organization. We have attended four quadrennial festivals, and at the most recent, in 2016, we were identified as a "showstopper" chorus, one of only four out of 180 choruses. The chorus performs a very wide variety of musical styles including, but not limited to, folk, jazz, swing, vocal percussion, pop, Broadway, rock, classical, and traditional choral music. We have a strong history in performing social justice music, and we have sung in many languages and non-languages. We are a non-audition chorus, pursuing musical excellence.
