Mission Statement

Keyway Center for Diversion and Reentry's mission is to advocate for and assist women in the criminal justice system to support their successful transition to family and community.

About This Cause

Keyway Center for Diversion and Reentry assists justice-involved women in building housing stability, financial security, and emotional wellness. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, the Center operates three transitional homes that provide on-site wrap-around services to over 130 women annually, including vocational services, life skills courses, behavioral health services, and more. Each year, over 300 women return from prison to the St. Louis area and hundreds more cycle through local jails. By the time a woman is incarcerated, she has likely already faced significant challenges including extensive trauma, low levels of educational attainment, and low income over most of her life. After release from incarceration, women are often faced with additional challenges including no ID, no money or job, and limited opportunities for safe housing. The goal of upward mobility is extremely difficult to attain without additional support. Subsequently, women often return to what is familiar to them, resulting in 30% returning to incarceration within 2 years. But with Keyway’s support, only 10% recidivate within 2 years.
