Mission Statement
Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council, (INC) is a dynamic community-based organization. Our commitment is to create the space in Ivanhoe for a diverse, multi-generational community. We drive investments in health, real estate, and economic development to help residents to achieve their aspirations.
About This Cause
The Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council (INC) organized in 1967 and legally formed re-organized in 1997 as a 501(c) (3) organization has a mission to build a “clean, beautiful, safe, and thriving neighborhood.” Since then, this neighborhood organization, which represents approximately 6,000 residents, has become one of the city’s most dynamic examples of revitalization. Presently, Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council operates as both a not for profit and community development corporation (CDC) as well as a designated Community Housing Development Corporation (CHDO) within the Kansas City Region. Ivanhoe Staff and programs operate out of the Nutter Neighborhood Center located at 3700 Woodland in Kansas City, Missouri. The Center provides office space for staff, volunteers, and a City Codes Enforcement Officer. Additionally programming and development partner organizations, Community Police Officers and neighborhood meetings/community events are a regular part of the Center’s life. Notable Accomplishments to date include: • Established Establishment of crime prevention activities that saw 700 drug houses eliminated from the neighborhood. • Development of youth and family initiatives including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, music, sports and robotics programs. • Created a thriving Farmers Market and an award winning Grown in Ivanhoe Project, providing urban growers with the know how to grow and/or sell their pesticide-free produce. • Lead advocacy work resulting in an Aldi supermarket located at 38th and Prospect. • Key participant in the advocacy work resulting in a Sun Fresh supermarket located at Linwood and Prospect. Annually complete 15-25 minor home repairs; to date repaired over two hundred homes • Launched the Ivanhoe Gateway at 39th Street project, building twelve senior cottages and eight duplexes • Eight senior cottages are under construction; expected completion fall 2022.
