To deliver hot nutritious meals to the elderly and disabled citizens of Lee's Summit enabling them to enjoy a more independent lifestyle.
About This Cause
Meals on Wheels of Lee's Summit (MOWLS) is a non-profit organization that delivers hot, nutritious and well balanced meals to the elderly and disabled citizens in the Lee's Summit community. MOWLS was started in 1974 by two Lee's Summit residents. They recognized a need in the community. Some of their friends and neighbors could not grocery shop or prepare quality meals for themselves, ultimately impacting their quality of life. MOWLS started with 15 clients and has grown exponentially since then. Today, MOWLS delivers 150+ meals each weekday. Meals are prepared by Lee's Summit Medical Center, our partner for 50 years, and packaged for delivery by MOWLS volunteers. Additional volunteers deliver the meals to local clients. Meals are delivered five days a week and on all holidays. Beyond nourishing the clients' bodies, MOWLS provides an additional, unadvertised service for those with limited outside contact. Delivery volunteers provide the assurance of a daily health and well-being check for the meal recipients who take comfort in knowing that someone will be looking in on them five days a week.
