About This Cause

Foundation for Second Chances programs: The After School and Tutoring Program This program provides disadvantaged youth of South Los Angeles the opportunity to develop necessary learning skills, appreciate the importance of education, and build character through relationships with caring volunteers. Through personalized attention and creative lesson planning, we provide a full and rewarding experience for all participations. Second Chances Mentoring Program This program builds long lasting, caring relationships between youth and mentors to foster each youth’s personal growth and potential. Successful mentoring relationships contribute to brighter futures, improved academic achievements, and strengthen community relations. Community Service Initiative This program is a two-part effort that includes participation in a variety of community events including two beautification days, FFSC’s Annual Community Health Fair and the Gift of Giving Holiday Event. In the second part of this program, youth identify a particular community issue and undertakes a community project to help resolve the issue. Reading Wheels This program prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books, programming, activities, and literacy resources. Students and volunteers actively participate in themed activities throughout the year. Leadership Program This program is designed to build and develop self-confidence, life and leadership skills through interactive learning, in-class discussions, presentations, workshops, and exploratory field trips. Participants demonstrate their knowledge and comprehension of a leader’s core essentials through journaling assignments, discussions, and a culmination project. Participants become well versed in the practical application of these essentials and implement them within their home, school, and community. These experiences enable participants to develop the tools and resources necessary to succeed in life.
