About This Cause
“Roots of South Sudan” was founded in 2011 to empower South Sudanese women, and youth through arts, crafts, sports and other activities. It was incorporated in the State of Washington on March 4, 2011 as a Washington Nonprofit Corporation and filed for IRS 501c3 status on May 3, 2011. “Roots of South Sudan” will raise funds and facilitate grant applications on behalf of “The Roots Project”, a Sudanese NGO founded by Anyieth D’Awol in 2009. The funds will be used to support the “Project’s” craft activities, its facility, equipment and learning materials; to provide beneficiaries with job skills, literacy and numeracy training; to provide health education and examinations; and to provide a safe environment for mothers and their young children to work and learn. “Roots of South Sudan” will promote, publicize and market arts and crafts produced by South Sudanese communities. It is believed that this effort will help the women of South Sudan achieve a measure of economic independence.
