Mission Statement

Founded in 2011, Heading Home Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 (Federal Tax ID number: 45-1314568) non-profit dedicated to finding good homes for local shelter animals in need. Some of these pets just need help meeting their new family and getting out into the community, while others are too young to be adoptable when they enter the shelter, have medical needs, or are shy. While their needs are varied, our goal is to act as a bridge for those animals; we provide them the care, time, and love they need in order to be at their best when the right person comes along to take them home. We also help people get their companion animals spayed or neutered! Each adoption site we have is focused on serving the animals in need of that particular community; our animals are local and our focus is local. Though we occasionally accept an animal or two from outside of the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area, the bulk of our 850+ adoptable animals each year come from the Santa Cruz/Watsonville, Salinas City and Monterey County sheltering systems. We believe that our community needs active, helpful solutions for companion animals and their owners, and we're committed to providing education and assistance throughout the adoption process, and also include a lifetime commitment to each and every animal in our care.

About This Cause

We help approximately 800 animals find their way out of area shelters and into new, loving homes each year. The animals we serve range from bottle baby kittens, to feral cats, to parvo positive puppies, and everything in between.
