Mission Statement
The Healy Field community garden provides Roslindale (part of Boston, MA) residents access to land to grow fresh food and engage with their community as they plan and maintain the garden. The garden will feature accessible plots designed for people of varying physical abilities, children’s garden plots, tables, benches, fruit trees, and a gathering space for community events. If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $25,000 by November 19, 2017, at midnight, the project will win a matching grant with funds from MassDevelopment’s Commonwealth Places program in partnership with the civic crowdfunding platform, Patronicity. About This Cause
Friends of Healy Field (FOHF), in partnership with Boston Parks and Recreation Department and GreeningRozzie, Inc, is ready to build a community garden at Healy Field, in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston, MA. After several years of outreach and dozens of meetings, we are poised to create a garden space for children and adults, including a gathering space for community-wide events. The Healy Field community garden provides Roslindale residents access to land to grow fresh food, as well as offering neighbors the opportunity to grow relationships, as they plan and maintain the garden. Forty plus neighbors designed the garden to be inclusive with accessible plots for people of varying physical ability levels, children’s garden plots, and a gathering space open to the larger community. The community designed the following features that are planned to be included in the garden: • accessible raised planters; • a beautiful stone wall and protective fencing; • a gathering space, with a shade canopy, to host formal and informal community events; • tables & benches for gardeners and neighbors to sit and enjoy the garden; • tool sheds; • a community bulletin board; • fruit trees and bushes; The Healy Field community garden is open to anyone living in Roslindale, 25% of whom are foreign born, and provides an opportunity for peoples of diverse backgrounds to meet and interact on common ground, sharing of themselves and of their culture, strengthening community ties in the process.
