Mission Statement
With a focus on young adults and the cultivation of future Jewish leaders, we engage and mobilize the Jewish community on issues of shelter and related basic human needs through hands-on service, education, and advocacy.
About This Cause
The Tivnu Gap Year works to connect Jewish life and social justice through individualized internships, intentional community, experiential education, and adventure trips around the Pacific Northwest. Participants work with grassroots and advocacy organizations while living in a house together in Portland, Oregon. We match participants' with internships based on their social justice and professional interests, ranging from building tiny houses for houseless Portlanders to education to refugees’ rights to climate change advocacy. Tivnu also conducts service trips for youth groups and high school groups who travel to Portland to learn about social justice issues and volunteer with our partner organizations.
