Mission Statement
Touched By Suicide-North Texas (TBS-NT) was founded to promote awareness of the devastating effects of suicide upon its victims, family members and friends. Our objectives are to educate the public, comfort members and support efforts which strive to prevent suicides.
About This Cause
Our organization is dedicated to instilling hope to those who have been affected by suicide, and working to prevent suicide through educational and awareness activities. The organization provides counseling services to family members and friends of suicide victims. Our support groups meet monthly using donated space from local churches to execute the counseling sessions. Three groups of facilitators support the organization and devote their time for free. The facilitators lead the counseling services for family members and friends of suicide victims. The goal is to offer each family member and/or a friend of the suicide victim to share their grief, to speak about the loss, and then to understand the nature of the loss and that they are not alone. There is never a charge to participate in these sessions. We also cover the devastating effects of suicide upon its victims. Themes frequently discussed about suicide include statements about feeling hopeless, helpless, or worthless; a deepening depression; preoccupation with death; taking unnecessary risks or exhibiting self-destructive behavior; out of character behavior; a loss of interest in the things one cares about, etc. Early detection of the symptoms and immediately seeking professional help result in suicide prevention.
