Mt. Airy CURE is dedicated to improving the Mt. Airy Business District and Community through development, community engagement, and enhancing community assets.
About This Cause
Mt. Airy is on the rise! Nearly a decade ago, a study by the University of Cincinnati showed that over the last 40 years, Mt. Airy has seen a larger decline than any other Cincinnati neighborhood. This decline encouraged a group of volunteers to form the Mt. Airy Community Urban Redevelopment Enterprise (CURE), a non-profit Community Development Corporation (CDC). Before CURE was founded, the City of Cincinnati was not investing in Mt. Airy. Major dollars that spark redevelopment in the city went to other neighborhoods. CURE has managed to change that conversation! Since CURE was founded, $1,000,000.00 in real estate and development has been invested in the Mt. Airy community! These investments have had major impacts throughout Mt. Airy. First, after Mt. Airy Commons (the beautiful new parking lot and gathering space on Colerain Ave.) was built a new real estate company opened across the street and a key ‘problem’ property along Colerain was sold to a new owner. Second, CURE acquired 2.3 acres at the intersection of North Bend and Colerain to help build a new mix-use development. Third; we improved the safety of Colerain Avenue by installing Cincinnati Police District 5 monitored cameras, LED Street Lights, and updated landscaping. Over the next year, we will expand our organization to tackle additional pressing issues in Mt. Airy. Recently, we partnered with local agencies to help empower tenants and improve the quality of our multi-family housing. Additionally, we began hosting engagement events in Mt. Airy Forest to showcase one of our neighborhood assets. Last, we are partnering with the City of Cincinnati to create and implement the first Neighborhood-wide Development Plan since 1975.
