Mission Statement
CYFS is a not-for-profit social services agency that works with those who have been touched by trauma, grief and loss, abuse and neglect, and other significant family life challenges. A primary service is the Foster Care program, serving nearly 1,300 abused and neglected children and their families each year. In addition to foster care services, the organization also provides adoption; behavioral health counseling; child abuse prevention; crisis pregnancy counseling; intact family intervention; residential services for youth; senior services; and youth, family, and community outreach services. Its mission is to engage and serve children and families in need with dignity, compassion, and respect by building upon individual and community strengths to resolve life challenges. CYFS has 11 offices across Illinois, and annually serves over 7,000 families in 37 counties and over 20,000 individuals statewide.
About This Cause
The Center for Youth and Family Solutions has six program areas all of which focus on serving children and families who have experienced life changing trauma, abuse and neglect, or other significant life challenges. Our goal is to help each child and adult learn to cope with those experiences and help them achieve their fullest potential. Our programs are some of the most effective in the state of Illinois in achieving desired results. Adoption Over the past five years – our Adoption program has made a lasting important impact in the lives of children who need a forever family– completing 840 adoptions and 119 guardianships. Counseling One way we measure success in our counseling program is to ask clients if our services made a difference and if the change was lasting. Consistently over the past 5 years, 90% of individuals and families who came to us for help, reported that our counseling services were effective in helping them resolve their presenting issue. Foster Care Foster care is a time of uncertainty for kids – and therefore it is meant to be temporary. The goal is to reunify children safely with family whenever possible – and when that is not an option, to find a new forever family for a child through adoption. CYFS is known for being one of the most successful agencies in the state when it comes to achieving permanency for kids in foster care. Intact Family Services CYFS prevents subsequent abuse and neglect in at-risk families through our Intact Families program. One way we are able to measure the effectiveness of our work is to see if children are still safe 12 months after families graduate from our program. So far, 96 % of Intact Families we serve remain successfully closed 12 months after receiving our services. Guardian Angel Our residential program Guardian Angel Home continues to see great outcomes for the young boys we serve --- keeping kids safe while meeting their needs and helping them with a successful In-home Counseling Services- Thanks to our compassionate in-home counselors and caring volunteers - 97% of the seniors we served in the past five years successfully continued to live independently and avoided nursing home care. YFCOS (Youth, Family, Community Outreach Services) Serving over 500 youth a year for the past five years, our Community Based Youth Services program helped over 96% of youth runaways get off the streets and return safely to either their family or a family generated alternative solution.
