To help educators and parents eliminate reading gaps for students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade.
About This Cause
Kids Read Now reverses the summer learning loss gap for students pre-kindergarten through 5th grade and jump-starts reading for fall school year success. Each student in the Kids Read Now program chooses eight books that will be mailed home in the summer, winter, or fall. When a student is enrolled in our program, they are given the power to choose their eight individual books from over 200 available titles, we gain their buy-in and build the anticipation to receive a book in the mail. After a child chooses which books they will receive, the books are mailed to the child’s home once every nine days. Each book contains activity prompts for children and caregivers to complete together, increasing comprehension and engaging the family in at-home reading. Once the book has been read, caregivers log in to our proprietary platform to report their book and give feedback. Caregiver support is given in multiple languages. Each child participating in the program receives a prize when they complete their 8 books. Kids Read Now (KRN) partners with educators and parents who have identified students needing extra reading support. KRN connects with parents to encourage family reading time through text and email. Parent engagement is presented in over 100 languages. Kids Read Now reports back to school districts at the end of the program, sharing each student’s data on progress and achievements. Student's cost to participate in the program is free with Kids Read Now receiving funding from school districts or philanthropy. The total cost to Kids Read Now for student participation is $55 per student. Parent Testimony: “We love Kids Read Now! Our son started in kindergarten, now he is a second grader.
