Mission Statement
The Neighborhood Food Projects are a revolutionary way to collect food: It's a donor drive, not a food drive. Instead of asking for one-time contributions of food, our volunteers (Neighborhood Coordinators) enlist their neighbors to become long-term Food Donors. Pickups are done six times a year ... on the 2nd Saturday of even-numbered months. The donor is provided with a green bag with the Food Project information. Neighborhood Coordinators pickup the green bags and leave an empty bag, a thank you note, and a reminder for the next pickup. The food is brought to local Food Banks and pantries for distribution to those in need. We're helping those in need, one green bag at a time!
About This Cause
The Neighborhood Food Projects are a revolutionary way to collect food: It's a donor drive, not a food drive. Instead of asking for one-time contributions of food, our volunteers (Neighborhood Coordinators) enlist their neighbors to become long-term Food Donors. Neighbors donate a bag of food every two months. It's incredibly easy, because we supply the bag…and we pick up the food! This provides food pantries with a steady, year-round supply of food…and provides donors with the ongoing satisfaction of making a real difference. They also get to know their neighbors, which builds a powerful sense of community. So everyone wins. The food is brought to local Food Banks and pantries for distribution to those in need. We're helping those in need, one green bag at a time! What's the result? FULL SHELVES! Our system really works! As an example, in Ashland, Oregon, we currently bring the Ashland Emergency Food Bank more than 120,000 lbs of food a year…one bag at a time. That’s about 35% of the food they distribute! There are Neighborhood Food Projects in approximately 30 communities throughout the U.S., with more starting every few months!
