Mission Statement

ZAMI NOBLA is an advocacy organization building power for Black lesbian feminists 50 years of age and older living anywhere in the United States. We center movement building, health and wellness, and community-action research.

About This Cause

ZAMI NOBLA offers informal online support and fosters community connections for black lesbians over 40 across the United States. With its headquarters in Atlanta, the organization has chapters in Georgia and North Carolina, as well as members nationwide. We organize face-to-face educational forums, discussion groups, and social gatherings to strengthen our community ties. We've initiated breast cancer screening programs specifically for the Black lesbian community and have carried out both qualitative and quantitative research focusing on older sexual minority women in the U.S. Additionally, we have refurbished the Biggers House in Atlanta to provide safe, accessible, and affordable housing for two elder Black lesbians living on fixed incomes. Our efforts also extend to cultivating and caring for community gardens. We offer online Ukulele classes and have formed the UKE-IN ensemble. Moreover, we produce the ZAMI NOBLA Podcast, a sound source for Black lesbian history.
