About This Cause
Black Nonbelievers (BN) is a 501 c3 non-profit organization. Headquartered in the Atlanta area, we provide an informative, festive and supportive community to Blacks and allies who are living free of religion and and might otherwise be shunned by family and friends. Instead of accepting dogma, we determine truth and morality through reason and evidence. According Pew Research, Blacks/African Americans still make up one of the highest percentage of the religiously affiliated in the United States. Because of the role that the church plays in the Black community, it can be extremely challenging to openly identify as an atheist or nonbeliever, which also creates a strong sense of isolation for many. In addition, the voices of the nonreligious in the black community continue to be overlooked in the fight for racial justice. Black Nonbelievers also fights to overturn this disparity. BN welcomes everyone regardless of sexuality, gender identity, age, national origin or race.
