About This Cause

MISSION STATEMENT To empower men and boys to fulfill their potential in every realm of life. To present to our families, communities, nation and world an image of men as faithful, family-oriented, moral, loving, intelligent, responsible and productive. CHARITY DESCRIPTION K.I.N.G. is a national Men’s Movement geared toward strengthening men by providing brotherhood, encouragement, accountability, training and fellowship. K.I.N.G. seeks to become a strong and visible example of men uniting to better themselves, their families, their communities, their nation and their world. We believe it takes a movement to change a culture, and our goal is to impact American culture in a way that leads it to align more with the highest standards for individuals and a society. K.I.N.G. provides two primary platforms to prioritize our efforts, and builds a continuum of impact, services and support through these vehicles: THE NATIONAL K.I.N.G. SUMMIT: - Annual event for hundreds of men across the country, providing teaching, training and tools in the areas of faith, family, finances, education, employment, social empowerment, community engagement and mental health. These areas are then further expanded through ongoing collaborations with established programs, trusted partners, and subject matter specialists who provide ongoing opportunities for the men of K.I.N.G. THE CHURCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM: - National collaborations established through local congregations, faith groups and other nonprofit organizations for the purpose of enhancing, expanding and empowering those organizations through strategic partnerships. THE K.I.N.G. SCHOLAR PROGRAMS To impact the next generation of men, The K.I.N.G. Movement intentionally invests in at risk, underserved males to provide role models, mentorship and positive experiences to prepare them for a successful and sustainable future. The K.I.N.G. Scholar Programs are designed as mentoring activities tailored for young men between the ages of 5-25 to help participants fulfill their ultimate potential by exposing them to positive role models, facilitating experiences that broaden their personal views and goals, providing training that will aid them in becoming economically independent through respectable work, and introducing tools that will help them develop the personal skills and character necessary to become productive members of society. Scholar programs specifically target the most need based populations including high school youth in major cities with large populations of families facing socio-economic challenges, at-risk boys being reared in single-parent households, college-aged men connected to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and black boys in urban areas where a growing number of males are being negatively impacted by both recent and historical racism, racial profiling and/or social injustice. K.I.N.G. national and local chapters also invest in the ongoing growth of these Scholars by offering local educational support, employment resources, emotional tools, equipping for life stability, and empowerment through direct mentoring experiences and community engagement. The K.I.N.G. Scholars Program provides three specific platforms for engagement: - Rising K.I.N.G.’s - The Acts 8/Big Brother Reading program - “Return to Royalty” Rites of Passage program *Rising K.I.N.G.’s (college age, 19-25 years old) are invited to participate in many of the activities with the general adult population, aligning themselves directly alongside men who can have direct impact upon their development. They are also provided specific training in career development, college readiness, leadership and character development *The Acts 8/Big Brother Reading Program targets at risk males age 5-12, primarily from single-parent households, to provide nurturing, mentorship, and develop a life-long love of reading. The program objectives are: - To teach boys to read at or above grade level and begin to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning. - To assist boys with reading and comprehension deficiencies that have been exacerbated by the loss of in person learning through the global pandemic. - To lower the likelihood of boys getting involved in negative activities such as crime and gang-related activities. - To provide the boys with regular opportunities to engage with positive and productive men that serve as mentors. “Return to Royalty” Rites of Passage Program "Return to Royalty'' is a comprehensive, well-rounded, all-inclusive Rites of Passage program designed to teach Black boys how to properly and productively transition from boyhood to manhood. With an overwhelming number of boys in these communities (roughly 70%) being born and raised in fatherless homes, this program is essential to their growth and development, as well as to the forward progress of their racial and ethnic groups. Designed specifically for boys and young men of color, the goal of “Return to Royalty’’ is to build boys into men by offering practical training in life skills, conflict resolution, spiritual enlightenment, and cultural enrichment. TARGET GROUP: Black boys 10-17 years old. K.I.N.G. partners with targeted groups within the community, including churches, schools, community centers and juvenile detention facilities. OBJECTIVE: To transform the lives of Black boys through mentorship, personal development, practical training, as well as through the use of authentic historical significance to teach contemporary life lessons and connect them with a legacy of strength, confidence and valor. THE EXPERIENCE: Students are provided a variety of interactive settings to enhance their learning experiences. In addition to traditional instruction methods, they will be taken on field trips to colleges, businesses and other special venues to expose them to possibilities outside of their community. There will be guest speakers from various professions and backgrounds that will serve as role models and examples for the participants. At the conclusion of the program, the young men will be honored before their family and friends at a ceremony and dinner banquet.
