Mission Statement

The Holy Land (Jordan, Israel and Palestine) is home to over 350,000 Christians, most of whom are descendants of Jesus’ disciples and those whom the disciples converted. Sixty years ago, Christians accounted for about 18% of the population of the Holy Land; now they are only about 2%. There remain about 50,000 Christians in the Palestinian territories. The Select to Give Foundation exists to help the Christians of the Holy Land and the Middle East! Through the funding and creation of programs and partnerships, we support innovative community efforts to help Christians achieve a safer and more prosperous existence. Our organization’s goal is to recognize and maximize human potential in Christian communities by offering assistance in establishing programs that provide opportunities for education, entrepreneurship, social justice and community building.

About This Cause

Select to Give was founded in 2014, by Select International Tours, Inc. as a not-for-profit 501 c (3) Foundation with the intent of helping Christians of the Holy Land and the Middle East stay in their homelands with freedom to worship, be educated and work in a safe and healthy environment. Our vision is to connect U.S. based Christians with Christian families living in the Israel, Palestine and other Middle East countries. Through connections we aim to raise awareness, offer encouragement, provide aid and build relationships. We invite you to join us in creating innovative and long-lasting solutions to the hardship faced by our Christian brothers and sister in the Holy Land and other Middle East countries where they are a minority. We are committed to finding solutions which will strengthen Christian’s sense of self and of one’s community. Educational Program Over these last six years, the Israeli government has continued to reduce the budget allocated to Christian schools, a drastic reduction of grants once received. As a result, Select to Give is embarking on a program that pays the tuition, books and supplies for 12 school children. Our objective is to find donor families who will support this program. Father Abdel Masih, head of the Office of Christian Schools in Israel said, “In the end, if you help our students, you are helping all of Israel. We are a part of the whole and proud to be a part of the whole.” Another goal of the foundation is to coordinate the interaction of US Christian and Holy Land n children for the purpose of educational exchange. Another goal is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Basically it would be a pen pal program that would enable them to understand one another’s culture, hope and dreams. We dream of global understanding, connection, and communication. What better way to create this than to have students across the world write letters to one another? While pen pal programs for schools often offer connections to students from other countries to foster global citizenship, It’s important for students to learn from a young age that they should gather facts and understand others’ perspectives as they form their opinions on any topic. The goal is to teach children how to empathize with people who are different from them. Specifically, Select to Give has committed to support 12 children at a cost of $1,200 per child. Contributions are made directly to the school. Donors will communicate with the children periodically to report on the child’s performance. Each school will have an English website through which they can make a donation. A profile of the principal and the child will be provided. Child Development Centre in Bethlehem The “Steps” Center for Child Development is a Church-related organization (NGO), founded in 2015, by the Coptic Orthodox Church in Bethlehem. It is a health center for children and families. It deals with all kinds of emotional, psychological and psychiatric problems. Patients receive individual therapy, preventive and therapeutic services (psychodynamic, behavioral, special education and play therapy), as well as family therapy and group therapy. The major focus of the center is to provide educational, health, developmental and psychological support for children who suffer from psychological problems and other related learning disabilities. We provide a wide range of services for children in areas of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Pronunciation Deficiency. Additionally, we also provide comprehensive services in the areas of child neurology and child developmental disorders. The service is provided by experts in behavioral science and psychology, at the same time, offering unique services in areas of diagnosis, and Psychological-behavioral therapy. All these services are complemented by offering assessment of children’s mental capacity and diagnosis of behavioral deficiencies. The idea behind establishing the center emerged as a result of the psycho-social problems which Palestinians are facing, the increasing number of people who need support, and most importantly, the difficulties that people are facing to get services. This has resulted in a majority of people with mental and learning disabilities living in West Bank areas. Further problems specific to these areas affect the disabled community due to lack of access to services (politically instigated) and infrastructure. It is of note that these necessary services are readily available in Jerusalem and even covered by health insurance; however, clients in the West Bank cannot access these services due to the fact that they don’t have permits to Jerusalem. Furthermore, they face an arduous and often unsuccessful process each time they apply for permits which is costly in time, effort and organization of their own transportation to the West Bank checkpoints and beyond. The checkpoint process is itself notorious for extremely long and tiring waiting hours and inspection. Helping Handicapped Children Select to Give supports the Nino Dios Home (Child God Home) run by the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matara, a Religious Family of the Incarnate Word. Today, there are twenty nine permanent “residents” living in the facility. Six sisters who live on premises with the assistance of four local workers caring for the needs of the children who are dealing with various mental and physical challenges. Micro Loans Select to Give invests in social change to empower girls and women in Israel by enhancing economic opportunities. Select offers workshops and other financial planning opportunities for women to start their own businesses. Micro grants help inspire creative and innovative thinking. We provide small grants of up to $3000 per business to assist women entrepreneurs in Bethlehem to purchase equipment and furniture for startup businesses. As part of the program, educational and training workshops on topics relevant to small business management, business plan writing, social media marketing, computer skills and event planning are being organized. They are an excellent way to reach “hard to reach” or “yet to be reached” people, because they are awarded to groups that have access to many more citizens than traditional health and human service organizations. Sharing the Bread “Sharing the Bread” is a program within “Select to Give” foundation designed to help local families earn much needed revenue and to introduce American Christians to an authentic local lifestyle. During their pilgrimage to the Holy Land, groups from the U.S. are invited to join a local Bethlehem family for a Sunday afternoon home cooked meal in their homes. The program builds bridges by providing a glimpse into the local culture and way of life. By enjoying the local hospitality, savoring a meal and chatting with the families American Christians learn about the daily lives of their Christian brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. This program is unique to Select International Tours, and many of our clients have shared their positive experiences with us, confirming that the experience was one of the highlights of their pilgrimage.
