Mission Statement
Our Mission: To promote safety and justice in Tulsa County through co-located multi-disciplinary services that offer protection, hope, and healing to victims of interpersonal and family violence. One hope, one place, where safety comes first.
About This Cause
FSC is the one stop location for adult family violence victims in need of crisis intervention. Over 6,000 victims are served by 8 partner agencies (DVIS, Life Senior Services, Tulsa Police Department, Tulsa Metropolitan Ministries, City of Tulsa, Parent Child Center of Tulsa, Tulsa County Courts, and Legal Aid). These services include protective order filing, forensic nursing care, legal assistance, resource and referral. Over 1,700 children are seen annually from age newborn to 17 years. These children have often witnessed the violence between parents, or have attempted to defend the victim from the perpetrator, and a growing number of been drawn into the physical violence when the victim parent appears to have “numbed” to the pain of the violence and the perpetrator is leveraging a new threat to elicit the desired response from the victim. The children experience adverse childhood experiences can lead to physical and mental health problems as adolescents and adults, as well as increasing the likelihood the learned role will be repeated in adulthood. To reduce the impact of the childhood trauma of witnessing or involvement in family violence, the FSC sponsors Camp Hope for children of families involved in intimate family violence. Children experience a therapeutic camp which exposes them to activities, and education in an environment with other children with shared experiences. Follow-up is conducted on site at the Family Safety Center in one to one and group activities.
