Mission Statement

To empower communities through national primary education change, informed by our community-development programming.

About This Cause

The African SOUP works to improve the quality of primary education in Uganda by blending community development with national impact. We provide educational opportunities to more than 650 children in rural Uganda through our Nursery and Primary School. The SOUP school offers high-quality academics and co-curricular activities in a safe, nurturing environment that inspires hope and learning. Our school features a large community garden, computer lab, and a food program that includes two hot nutritious meals a day plus an evening meal for more than 70 boarding students. Additionally, we support our Primary 7 pupils in their continued education through scholarships and support. To combat some of the community’s greatest health needs, we also support 120 families through the provision of nutrient-rich food, immunizations, community workshops, parent counseling, and home visits throughout Nabikabala Village. The children in this program are prioritized for admission to our Nursery School, creating a full continuum of care. We have a bold vision for the future with the aim of national government adoption of our Active Learning Project, which emphasizes creative and critical thinking through project-based learning that nurtures the development of the whole child. Our School serves as a demonstration lab for this national initiative. The SOUP is Ugandan-led, and our programs encourage the development of local talent and community-designed solutions – all aimed at creating long-term, sustainable change through education and community-driven impact.
