About This Cause
Surya-Chandra Foundation is a Los Angeles based not-for-profit corporation (EIN#: 45-4708552) under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. We are aligned and committed to U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #4 Quality Education and #5 Gender Equality. For more information, you can also check us out at: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/45-4708552 Surya-Chandra Foundation intends to contribute to the welfare and advancement of impoverished young women and their children in poor countries of the world. The foundation intends to render assistance in the following ways: - Empower women and children through education, training and intervention programs - Serve the marginalized people especially with formation of women self help groups (SHGs) - Implement awareness education training - Conduct health education and medical camps Investing in girls' education is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty. Investments in secondary school education for girls yields especially high dividends. Girls who have been educated are likely to marry later and to have smaller and healthier families. Educated women can recognize the importance of health care and know how to seek it for themselves and their children. Education helps girls and women to know their rights and to gain confidence to claim them. We started by helping six deserving young girl students pursue college education in Chennai, India. We have partnered with ANEW (Association for Non-traditional Employment for Women) (https://www.anewindia.org/) and Sarva Vidya (https://www.sarva-vidya.org/) -- both organizations helping young women -- to educate and empower girls from very low income families and distraught segments of society. Since inception, we have supported the education and empowerment of thousands of girls and women over ten years. In 2023, we continued our support for hundreds of ANEW women, Sarva Vidya Nursing Assistants, and Sarva Vidya School girls. In addition, we have started supporting Mumbai based Kranti (https://www.kranti-india.org/) and added education support for women and children at PCVC (https://pcvconline.org/). We have the opportunity to expand vocational training for young women, and STEM education beyond middle school for thousands of deserving girls in 2024 and beyond.
